Jewelry Care: Pearls

Pearls require special care to keep their luster. Follow these tips to keep your pearls in good shape longer.

• Put pearls on after you apply perfumes or other cosmetics.

• Place them individually in a lined wrap or in a jewelry box wrapped in tissue to avoid scratches.

• Silk threads can stretch or fray.Be sure to have them checked at your jewelers. They may need to be re-strung.

• Avoid wearing them in the shower, pool, or cleaning products.These can damage a pearl's luster or loosen the pearl from its post. Even simple hand washing can at some point cause damage to a pearls luster.

Special cleaning solutions are available. Avoid using ammoniated or acetone jewelry cleaners.
